Assignment #7

My glog

Hamlet

This picture is Michael Stuhlbarg as Hamlet, and Lauren Ambrose as Ophelia.

In this picture Mel Gibson is playing Hamlet.

This is Glenn Close as Gertrude, the Queen.

In Roger Ebert’s critic of Mel Gibson as Hamlet, he said that Mel gives Hamlet an upbeat way about himself.  Most other Hamlets mope and are melancholy characters.  He made it more believable that Hamlet was a normal guy before his father died and his mother married his uncle.  Ebert says Mel did a good job at showing how happy and healthy Hamlet was before all those bad things happened in his life.

Assignment #6

The video seems to be set in Japan.  The girl is trying to learn how to play the violin but it is harder for her because she is deaf. When she tries to get help from a girl her age, the girl gets frustrated, yells and leaves. The deaf girls pretty down and ready to give up when she watches a man play the violin in the street. The man is also deaf and after talking to the man the young girl has more confidence.  She practices and practices for her concert. At the concert she does great and everyone loves her performance. The video shows even when the odds are against you, you can still overcome the odds.

Assignment #5

To be a Rennaissance man or woman you don’t have to be super smart or perfect at doing things, you just have to excel at a certain thing.  In my opinion my grandmother is a Rennaissance woman.  She not only took care of the four kids and the household chores, she also helped take care of the farm.  She was a very good mother and did everything she could to help with the animals.  She exceled at her job and I think that makes her a perfect example of a Rennaissance woman.

Assignment #4

The Lyrebird was very impressive. It could pretty much mimick any noises that it heard in the forest. In the clip we watched it mimicked many other birds and even noises that humans were making. The Lyrebirds tail is huge when it is fanned out so if you ever saw one then you should be able to tell the it is a Lyrebird. Also when you watch the clip about the Lyrebird you start to think about how much humans effect the natural world. You hear the bird mimick some equipment used by humans in the film. Since we have been building all these new malls, and buildings the wildlife has been effected.  When there are birds like the Lyrebirds out there who live in the wild but can mimick human equipment then it should get you thinking….

Assignment #3

On the game we played I got eight out of twenty right. When you play this game you can’t help but to go by stereotypes because you are just looking at pictures. In really life you shouldn’t go by stereotypes because not only could you be wrong, you could make the person you are talking about really upset. Its better to have facts than to just go by what you hear. For example, some of the people we were classifying had really dark skin and I put them under the American Indian category but they classify themselves as Asians, so I fell for the stereotype of American Indians. You should always try to find out some facts before you assume something.

Assignment #2

The media mostly plays a negative role when talking about body images. Media today takes models that are already pretty and digitally alters their photos to make the perfect person. There is no such thing as the perfect person so by doing these alterations the media distorts the world’s views and opinions on beauty. Also by altering these images it makes young teens and children think that some of their  features are not pretty just because all the models don’t have the same features. I think the media’s view on beauty creates self esteem problems in many men, women, and children these days.

Media also makes people think that you can have the perfect spouse, job, home, and life. No one is perfect so even though the media seems to think you can find the perfect man/woman for you its not true. You can find a good man/woman that you can fall in love with but they will have their faults that you will learn to live with. There is also no perfect job out there. Everyone has different likes and opinions, so a job that one person hates, another person might love. Media just gives us false hope about perfection and beauty.

Assignment #1

I haven’t ever used a blog before for class assignments. It seems like it is going to be fun, after we get all the little problems fixed.
